Still getting greener…

Here are a couple of quick tips for reducing your footprint from your electronics. First, recycle your old cell phones! Admit it…you have at least one old one lying around! Less than 1% of cell phones are currently recycled. There are plenty of places to take it that are quick and easy…here is a link to a few of them from the EPA.

Next-unplug your appliances. This is one I am still working on. 10%…ten full percent…of the electricity used in your home is burned by electronics when they are turned off! According to my handy little book, if every US household unplugged just their cell phone chargers (that I do) and computers (working on it) when they were not being used, we would save over $100 million. That’s enough to provide free health care to every low-income child under the age of 5 in the state of California. See that? Not only are we going green, we’re also solving the healthcare crisis. Dawn for president!!!!

For the guys out there whose wife is trying to abide by her green initiatives…a word of support….just go with it. It’s really not that hard, if it was unplugged when you tried to use it I suggest unplugging it again when your done. In the beginning I figured she was doing enough green things for the both of us but then I actually saw that it really wasn’t that hard to get on board. Don’t get me wrong, in no way am I a green savant. I try to do the things that Dawn is doing but at about the quarter of the success rate but at least I am thinking about it.

    Now regarding Dawn for President…

I agree….DAWN FOR PRESIDENT!!! I would like to be the campaign manager and I expect to get paid handsomely. Also, upon election (since I will now officially be the first man) I am going to throw extravagant parties and hang out with sports celebrities and golf the nicest courses in the world. Since I will most likely be a PR nightmare for the first female president, I will handle all your PR issues…it will be like cleaning up after myself. However, don’t worry….in an effort to support the green initiatives I will tell everyone to bring there own beer mug so we don’t use any red solo cups because in 14 years they are decomposable.

Thanks for the support love! To follow up on what Tim said, it’s true-it’s really not that hard. Every once in a while I’ll catch myself being lazy, and I have to tell myself “that’s dumb. This will take you two seconds”. And yes, that is often out loud. To myself. What I’m trying to say is, just give it a try! If you hate going green, you didn’t sign a contract. You can go back to being whatever color you were before 🙂
