I will be the first to admit-I have been struggling to get into a good workout routine lately. I’ve been doing okay with my running (although even that could be better), but I have been neglecting strength, core, flexibility…pretty much everything else. I always have the best of intentions. Unfortunately, I also always seem to have an excuse. So here is my challenge to myself, and to you, this week. Eliminate those excuses! For instance…I have been wanting to go to the gym at work, conveniently located on the first floor of my building. I have not gone once. I am not a morning person, so when I say to myself, I’ll pack gym clothes in the morning…not true. Eliminate the excuse! My gym bag is currently packed and ready to go. It’s not like it’s hard. I ride my bike to work most days, I’m already wearing half of the outfit I need. This technique is something I also use when I want to go for an early morning run. If my running clothes are laid out with my shoes right next to them and my iPod is charged, located and ready to go, I might actually get up. If I can think of one thing that might be an inconvenience in the process, snooze button it is.
What is your excuse? Not enough time to pack a healthy lunch in the morning? Do it tonight. Rushing around too much for a good breakfast in the morning? Set everything out right now, and set the timer on your coffee pot. Pack that gym bag. Put the recycling bin right next to the trash so there’s no excuse. Write out your dinner recipe ideas for the week and make sure you have everything you need. What are your excuses? What are you going to do to eliminate them?
